Active Older Adults

The YMCA has fitness classes specifically designed for older adults. They give participants an opportunity to stay physically active or in some cases, to overcome their fear of exercise and begin being physically active.

YMCA Active Older Adult Fitness programs accommodate a wide variety of interests and functional abilities of older adults. Active Older Adults classes include Super Senior Aerobic classes, Strength and Conditioning, Gentle Pilates, Yoga, Swimming, Aqua Aerobics and Silver Sneakers.

Active Older Adults can also take part in our Commit to be Fit and ActivTrax programs.

Adult (18+ yrs)

Active Older Adult

Whatever age you are ... this modified class is designed as a low-to-moderate-intensity cardiovascular, flexibility, balance and muscle conditioning workout. This class is also ideal for an after-injury transitional class.

Arthritis Aquatics (AFYAP)

The Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program (AFYAP) is a collaborative effort of two national organizations. This is a recreational exercise program with a wellness concept for people with arthritis to manage symptoms, maintain independence and enjoy life. This program is taught in a group setting with activities and exercises to encourage self care, provide social interaction, improve muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Joint Efforts

Joint Efforts is designed to increase range of motion and build muscle tone in those with joint issues or anyone who wants a non-impact exercise class. 

Low Impact Aquacise

This class uses slow, precise movements in the water. It is good for anyone with injuries, arthritis, MS or other physical challenges. The class focuses on range of motion using low impact exercise.

Senior (62+ yrs)

Active Adult Holiday Party

Our active adult holiday party is still a traditional favorite. We offer 2 convenient times for our special groups that have developed her at Indian Boundary YMCA. The party is a potluck and small donation of $5 to cover the main dish.

Active Older Adult

Active Older Adult Day

Calling all Active Seniors! Join us for Functional Fitness Testing. See how fit you are and what your workouts are doing for you. A healthy snack will be served.

Easy Does It

For our Active Older Adults, beginners, and those carrying excess weight this class is a combination of walking, light impact aerobics, toning and stretching.

F.A.C.E.S.

The Leaning Tower is excited to offer our Senior Program, F.A.C.E.S. (faces = friendly, active, community, enlightened, seniors). Free to members, this program provides an opportunity for seniors to enjoy social, active, informative and fun activities together while building the F.A.C.E.S. community. Fit and 55

This class is designed for the young at heart. It will help you get in shape, stay in shape and have fun doing it. Bring friends of all ages for a great workout too!

A low impact class including cardiovascular and resistance training. 

Grandparents Day

Celebrate Grandparents Day with us in a new way. Bring your grandparents to the YMCA to watch you in your sport or to take part in a special workout. Workout for grandparents and kids will take place in the aerobic studio.

Senior Commit To Be Fit

This program is for people age 55 and older and is led by a Wellness Coach in a non-intimidating and supportive environment.  This program will provide you with the opportunity to work in a group setting, while making new friends and learning how exercise can produce positive benefits in your life.  No experience necessary! 

Senior Learn to Swim

Swim lessons specifically designed for adults 55 and older.

Senior Pilates

This senior friendly class combines introductory Pilates with stretching and balance. Use of equipment and fit balls.

SilverSneakers Cardio Circuit

Combine fun and fitness to increase your cardiovascular endurance and muscular power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand held weights elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.

SilverSneakers Fitness

Designed for participants age 65 and over, this class moves through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and skills required during activities for daily living (ADL). Hand-held weights, elastic tubing and a ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and standing support.

SilverSneakers MSROM (Muscular Strength, Range of Motion)

Designed for participants age 65 and over, this class moves through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and skills required during activities for daily living (ADL). Hand held weights, elastic tubing and a ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated and standing support.

SilverSneakers Splash

SilverSneakers Splash is an aerobic in the water designed by the popular SilverSneakers Program.  This class provides the combined benefits of an aerobic and a no-impact workout.  It uses the water as resistance to increase muscle tone.  Taught by SilverSneakers Splash certified teachers.

SilverSneakers YogaStretch

YogaStretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

Sticks and Stretch

This class is designed for active older adults for a whole mind\body experience.  It captures the essence of movement, rhythm and fun while delivering real fitness results.

Still in the Game

45 minute class that will focus on cardio exercise.  We will also incorporate some core and balance work to help improve flexibility.

Super Senior Excercise

Experience the benefits of exercise as well as fellowship in this energetic exercise time. Enjoyable music, simple to follow movements and fun are some of the components of this class. Emphasis is on flexibility, strength, endurance and cardio-respiratory heath.

Twinges in the Hinges

Twinges in the Hinges is an Arthritis Foundation-approved class designed for active older adults to enhance muscle development and joint movement, as well as provide a fun and effective way to exercise.

Zumba Gold

Fun, motivating combination of Latin inspired international music and dance steps guaranteed to make you sweat. Lower intensity geared towards active older adults.
