In the YMCA sports classes, we focus on skill development and strengthening those skills throughout the duration of the sports program.

This class teaches real boxing techniques, punches and footwork. Participants will use hand wraps, boxing gloves, focus mitts, and heavy bags for punching and kicking drills. Play the innovative game of disc golf. Learn to throw, drive and putt your disc for the lowest score. This class is for everyone who wants to have fun.
Ready to get back IN THE SWING of things prior to the 2010 golf season? This class will incorporate functional movements with the FreeMotion towers, stability balls, bands, & stretching exercises to improve your golf game. Class will also help with prevention of injuries & flexibility.
This class is a parent participation program for young children who have never played golf before. Clubs will be provided.
Each participant will learn how to hold the golf club, what each golf club represents, golf etiquette, how to chip, drive and putt. The last day of the class will be on a mini course set up in the gym.
Kids will learn the basic fundamentals of golf: putt, chip and hit with their irons. SNAG is a program run in conjunction with the Hook A Kid on Golf Foundation.
This class will teach advanced gymnastics skills. Participants must be able to pass a level 3 evaluation and/or have permission from the director.
For the Preschooler who is more advanced in skill, strength, flexibility and social skills. Must have special permission and have taken a minimum of four sessions of Tiny Tykes classes. Children will use all gymnastics equipment.
Little to no experience in gymnastics. Will receive an introduction to all of the boy’s events. They will learn beginner skills such as rolls and cartwheels on floor, swings and hangs on parallel bars, rings and high bar and basics on pommel horse. Builds the strength and fundamentals to move on in gymnastics.

Boys and girls will learn levels 1, 2 and 3 skills of tumbling. They will also work on the Tumble Trak and learn how to use the spring board (varies by local YMCA).
Girls will learn advanced tumbling skills with concentration on the flip flop. Students must have at least a level 3 competency in tumbling or have been moved up from Beginning Tumbling, to take this class.
(Parent/Child Class) This is a very basic class to introduce children to tumbling. Parents or caregivers participate in this class with their child. This class helps develop strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness.
Little or no experience in gymnastics. Girls will learn body positions, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls and basics on the apparatus.
Should have had some instruction in gymnastics and be able to pass a Level 1 evaluation. Start learning backbends, kickovers, pullovers on bars, and basic vault and beam skills.
Need some extra TUMBLE time? Here’s your chance to work on your skills outside of class. Parents must accompany children under 6. Receipt necessary for entry on open gym days.

This class provides a special time for parents and their toddlers to spend quality time together. We also provide experiences to help your child develop physical and social skills.
A perfect combination of dance and tumbling designed for the preschooler. Fundamentals of dance are taught during a graceful warm up and cool down. Then we switch to balls, ribbons and hoops for the last half of class.
Expand your gymnastics skills with this NEW class. Rhythmic gymnastics is a combination of dance and gymnastics. Develop flexibility and coordination while having fun learning to work with balls, ribbons, hoops, and ropes. No experience necessary.
Children will begin work on more advanced skills. Classes develop flexibility, strength, and strong technical skills for a first-time gymnast. Children progress at their own pace in a fun, safe environment.
After stretching, jumping and basic tumbling, we tell a story, then act it out. WOW! We put everything we learn into action. What a great way to create a love for reading. The kids love it!

Handball has been called The Perfect Game for many reasons. Handball is a lifetime sport that develops great hand/eye coordination, footwork, agility, and quick thinking. In this class we focus on developing solid fundamentals.
In the team class players learn the more advanced skills of the game. Strategy, shot selection and mechanics, pre-shoot positioning, off hand development, offensive and defensive techniques are all focused on. These players have an opportunity to compete on a local as well as a national and world level as they demonstrate the YMCA core values both on and off the court.
Team Handball is a mix of soccer, hockey, and basketball. The class will consist of learning the rules and skills needed to play this fast paced sport.
This class is designed for the beginner through intermediate skater. Our skate instructors will teach both flat land, rail, and ramp techniques in these exciting classes.
Participants train in the traditional Korean art of kicking and punching. Contact sparring and self-defense skills are taught as well as falling, rolling, tripping, sweeping and throwing techniques. Classes also include striking techniques of Muay Thai Kickboxing and Western Boxing, the takedowns of Freestyle Wrestling and the grappling techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to make for a well-rounded style. In this class all adult students of all ranks train together.
This class is geared toward white and yellow belt practitioners and individuals who are new to the martial arts. Buehler's Wonderful World of Sports
This class is perfect for those parents looking to get away for a quick 45 minute workout before or after a good lunch. Kids in this class will play miscellaneous gym games while laughing, learning, and make young friends. Activities will include basketball, soccer, T-ball, climbing and more.
This class consists of sports-specific drills, plyometrics and conditioning concepts from a variety of sports. The goal of this class is to provide a comprehensive conditioning program for the recreational athlete as well as provide supplemental training to the collegiate, high school and middle school athlete. This class is not recommended for any person with known health concerns or recent injuries as established by the AHA and ACSM guidelines.
Want to get your kids out of the house and active? Fit ‘N Fun is a perfect class for your little man or woman. This class will focus on fun while also learning about the basics of several sports. Half of the class will concentrate on being fit and will consist of stretching and fitness activities, which will include scooters, relay races and maybe even the moon bounce. Parent and Child Gym and Swim Classes
Enjoy time with your child in the preschool gym and the pool! Spend part of the class playing with your child on our preschool gym apparatus under the direction of Y staff member. The other part of class is in our parent/child swim class, helping your child, under the coaching of a swim instructor, to learn how to swim, have fun and be safe in the water.
Parent and tot work as a team in this socialization class. Finger play, music, crafts, touch-book stories, seasonal activities and parties are included. Games, activities and puppets are introduced to enhance color and word recognition, improve listening skills and encourage child to verbalize. Balls, hoops and parachutes help us to develop large motor skills. Parent will provide snack once each session. Off-site field trip may occur once each session.

Chrildren bring their lunch or a snack to eat for the first half hour and should come to class with thier suit on. After we eat we will do an art activity, go to the preschool gym and then finish out the day with a swim lesson. Parents will pick up their child at the pool deck when the class is over.

This is a great class for children to participate in structured gym and pool activities. Participants will spend 45 minutes in the gym and 30 minutes in the pool. Children must wear their swimsuits under their clothes. Parents will pick their child up from the pool. All swimming abilities welcome.

Calling all Girls! Improve your volleyball skills in this new volleyball class. This class will focus on offensive and defensive concepts.

This is a great way to get your child moving at a young age and will be loads of fun!
Leave your child(ren) ages 3-12 with the YMCA staff while you do your Holiday shopping and preparation. Your child will be participating in holiday crafts, watching holiday themed movies, sports games, Rock Climbing, caroling and much much more. Pizza and popcorn will be served. Kids can dress in their favorite holiday pjs. Child must be potty trained.
After stretching, jumping and basic tumbling, we tell a story, then act it out. WOW! We put everything we learn into action. What a great way to create a love for reading. The kids love it!

This class teaches real boxing techniques, punches and footwork. Participants will use hand wraps, boxing gloves, focus mitts, and heavy bags for punching and kicking drills. Other conditioning exercises may include sprints, jumping rope, medicine ball drills, and lower/upper back strengthening. Supplies are not included. Contact Fitness Director for details.

Get your kids moving in our Home School Physical Education Program. This program is aimed at giving participants as close to a “Gym Class” as possible while still remaining flexible to meet the needs of the group. We will focus on one sport per month. Sports include but are not limited to volleyball, basketball, soccer, football, floor hockey and climbing. We also offer a light aquatics class on Fridays. This class consists of sports-specific drills, plyometrics and conditioning concepts from a variety of sports. The goal of this class is to provide a comprehensive conditioning program for the recreational athlete as well as provide supplemental training to the collegiate, high school and middle school athlete. This class is not recommended for any person with known health concerns or recent injuries as established by the AHA and ACSM guidelines.

This is an intermediate level instructional class that will focus on more advanced techniques in the sport of wrestling. Participants will get hands on instruction on how to better their skills and have fun while doing it. Children will have a chance to learn from two IHSA team state champions.
This energetic introductory class will teach jumps and skills used for cheerleading and basic hip/hop moves. Dress for movement.
In this exciting class, students will have the opportunity to learn a variety of circus arts. Plate Spinning, balancing acts, face painting, hula hooping, stilt walking, pogo jumping, balloon animals, juggling and static trapeze, are just some of the fun skills they will touch on.
Come learn the basic skills of cricket. Cricket is a sport that is catching on worldwide. Your child will learn the game from a former cricket professional. Participants will also learn the rules of this new fun and exciting, fast-paced sport.
Bring your family to compete in our annual bags tournament. Everyone is encouraged to play. The tournament will be followed by hot dogs and refreshments.
This program, consisting of a 45-minute gym class, is designed for home-schooled students kindergarten-8th grade who meet once a week throughout the school year. Activities may include: floor hockey, soccer, fitness testing, organized group games and basketball.
Home School Physical Education
Our YMCA program is designed to give your children the chance to learn and play a traditional YMCA sport each month. Details and schedule will vary, please contact your local YMCA for information.
Kids will have fun using their imagination and creativity moving their bodies to the sounds various objects make or the ways various objects move.
This class will teach the basic on how to hold and throw a bowling ball, while learning the proper bowling form. Children will learn how to pick up spares, strikes, and the very difficult 7/10 split.
This class will teach your child either the fundamentals of jump roping or cool jump rope tricks. Build coordination skills, learn balance and technique. Just Jump into a more energized you!
Athletes will compete in various skills and challenges. These events will give kids the perfect outlet to develop new skills, make new friends while having fun. Each month will have a different theme and activities. All participants will need to have a signed parent waiver. How to register: Pre-register your athlete to save their spot and save some money!! Pre-register either in person or over the phone. All registration needs to be made before the event. Walk-in registration will not be allowed the day of events.

This beginner's instructional class will focus on teaching the basics of the sport of wrestling. This class will focus on developing the techniques needed to become a successful wrestler. Participants will receive instruction from two of IHSA team state champions.
Wii is not just a gaming console, it's a reason to get together with your friends, make new friends, and be social. Wii is an interactive game console that gets you physically moving, so come get moving with your local YMCA!
Come learn how to ride your bike or improve your current ability. Classes are a series of 2-one hour classes, once a week. From Training Wheels to Wheelies we can give you the skills. We will also discuss the importance of Bike Safety during the class. After completing the 2nd class, the "Y Rider" graduates and families will have a play date scheduled on our YMCA Pool Patio. Fun, Friends, and Sun! Activities will be planned for the "Y Riders". Bring your bike and we will teach you how to ride safely. Helmets are required.
