With a membership, many of our fitness programs are free, including our Commit to be Fit orientation and training plan. Even beyond our health and fitness offerings, we have family programming, healthy eating, special events and social services.

Basketball Adult (18+ yrs)

40 & Over Women's Basketball

Calling all women: come learn the fundamentals of basketball! Learn and develop shooting, dribbling, and  defensive skills in an exciting and low-key environment. You will also learn basic game strategies as you participate in actual basketball games. This class is primarily for women over 40, but we will make exceptions

Recreational Basketball League

This league will be great for all those who are ready to get out and play some basketball. Sign-ups must be done as teams. League standings will be kept and a tournament may be played at the end of the season. League details, schedule and rules vary by center, contact your YMCA for information.

Boxing Adult (18+ yrs)

Boxing Challenge

This class teaches real boxing techniques, punches and footwork. Participants will use hand wraps, boxing gloves, focus mitts, and heavy bags for punching and kicking drills. Other conditioning exercises may include sprints, jumping rope, medicine ball drills, and lower/upper back strengthening. Supplies are not included. Contact Fitness Director for details.

Group Cycle

Is a high-intensity cardio spinning workout performed at your own level. Set to music, the work is done on a stationary bike built to look like a road racing bicycle. Classes offered for both the beginner and advanced level.

Group Ride

What is Group Ride? Everyone finishes first in Group Ride! Roll over hills, chase the pack, climb mountains and spin your way to burning calories and strengthening your body. This cycling program is geared for anyone who can ride a bike. Motivating music, awesome instructors, and an inspiring group environment lets you Ride On!

Indoor Cycling

Come and experience our indoor cycling class on our stationary bikes. Highly trained instructors will challenge all fitness levels to reach their potential in this heart-rate-based workout. A water bottle is necessary.

Indoor Triathlon

The indoor triathlon will include a 10 minute swim, 20 minute bike (cycle) and 15 minute run (treadmill).  There will be 10-minute transition times allowed.  Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Men and Women.  Men's and women's age division categories.  Must be 16 years of age or older to participate.

Power Cycle Yoga

The best of cycling training followed by a fast-paced yoga workout.

Tour De France

Following the 2010 tour profile, this 75 minute class will take you through the 20 stages in 20 weeks.  Stages can be followed virtually with the profile on DVD along with guidance from instructor.  Come and join us for the challenge!

Adult Tae Kwon Do

A Korean are of self-defense and physical conditioning in which self-confidence and self-discipline are developed.

Adult Tae Kwon Do MMA

Participants train in the traditional Korean art of kicking and punching. Contact sparring and self-defense skills are taught as well as falling, rolling, tripping, sweeping and throwing techniques. Classes also include striking techniques of Muay Thai Kickboxing and Western Boxing, the takedowns of Freestyle Wrestling and the grappling techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to make for a well-rounded style. In this class all adult students of all ranks train together.

Aikido Self-Defense

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that is an effective form of self defense for students of all ages and fitness levels. You will learn how to avoid conflicts and defend yourself against a variety of attacks such as grabs, punches, kicks, and chokes. Aikido technique practice also improves balance, coordination, and flexibility.

Aqua Kickboxing

Calling all Water Warriors! The aqua kickboxing class is ideal for those looking to spice up everyday fitness routines. Join us for heart-pumping, muscle building exercises that will leave you saying, "I didn't even know I had muscles there!"

Aquatic Tai Ji (Tai Chi)

A fun, low-stress way to exercise and relax your whole body. Tai Ji and Chi Gong movements (ancient Chinese forms of exercise designed to enhance health) are done in warm, standing-height water to allow for strain-free, full-range, integrated muscle movements to aid balance and increase body control. No swimming skills required.

Bodycombat

This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

This class applies different styles of martial arts including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kick Boxing, Karate and Tae Kwon Do as well as cover some aspects of stand up and ground situations. 

Cardio Boxing

We work to teach you basic boxing skills that are used for different punching drills that can be used for self defense or just to get you into better shape.

Cardio Kickboxing (All Levels)

This high-energy class utilizes practical self-defense techniques. Combined with high and low impact moves to improve cardiovascular endurance, you will jab, kick and jump through a great workout! Come burn off lots of calories and stress all at the same time.

Combat Strike (Intermediate Level)

Class will consist of intense kickboxing combinations and combat style movements. Class will use body bars, dumb bells, and bands combined with intense intervals. Come kick your cardio and muscle conditioning into high gear!

This electric fusion class of martial arts and boxing movements will kick your cardio fitness to the next level while defining and shaping your body and self confidence! Hardcore Kickboxing

Hardcore kickboxing using the kickboxing pads, punching bags along with other equipment, this class will help you increase your speed, agility and strength.

Kickboxing

A dynamic cardio workout geared to burn calories using a series of punches and kicks to upbeat, motivating music. All levels are invited to participate in this great workout!

Qigong and Tai Chi

Qigong and Tai Chi Workshops

These summer workshops are designed as an introduction for new students and a refresher for continuing students.  Class will include a sitting meditation, a standing set of flowing qigong exercises, a Tai Chi walking exercise, and a demonstration of the 5-minute Yang 24 Bejing Tai Chi form.

Self Defense Class

A combination of several styles of Martial Arts put together to teach practical self defense.

Specialty Qi Gong

Five Thunder Palm Qi Gong is a powerful advanced Mediacal Qi Gong. It draws energy from all five directions of the internal organs. It consists of two rounds, replenishing and expelling.

Tai Chi

Simple Tai Chi choreography, performed in a slow, flowing, continuous movement pattern improves balance, coordination, focus and concentration. Flex Racquetball League

This may be the best option for those of you who can't commit to a certain day and time for league play. Each week players are assigned a different opponent. Players contact their opponent to schedule a date and time to play that is convenient for both. Call the Member Services desk to reserve a court. Rock Climbing Adult (18+ yrs)

Adult Rock Climbing

Learn the fundamentals of climbing: belaying, rope management, balance and form, hand and foot techniques, partner communication skills, environmental consideration and ethics.

Cliff Hangers Adult Climbing

Participants will learn the skills needed to become a successful climber and belayer.Focus will be on knot tying, equipment use and set-up, climbing communication/ commands and techniques used for proper belaying. All different types of difficult activities and routes will be a challenging part to a great course offering.

Couples Sky Walkers

This is a 4 week session  Our new class has you and your partner learning to work together in a new and adventurous way. This class will help build trust by utilizing our high ropes course and using team building or low ropes initiatives exercises.

Women's Rock Climbing

A class designed for women who are interested in learning how to climb.  In this class, students will learn climbing techniques and foot, hand and body positioning, as well as rock climbing communication and safety.

Scuba Adult (18+ yrs)

Course participants will obtain the classroom learning and pool skills instruction portions of a PADI Open Water certification.

Adult Advanced Swim Clinic

This class is for the serious swimmer.  Features 60% drill/technique and 40% main set.  Must be able to swim 25 yards of front and back crawl.

Adult Beginner Swim Lessons

It's never too late to learn! Go on & take that plunge! Professional instruction for adults learning to swim in a safe and interactive environment.

Adult Intermediate Swim Lessons

This class is designed for adult swimmers who are comfortable in deeper water, can independently front and backfloat as well as swim half the length of the pool.

Adult Stroke Improvement

ave you been swimming forever but don't know if you are doing it correctly? Want to work on improving your stroke's effectiveness?  Feel like you are doing something wrong but can't figure out what it is? Stroke Improvement is for those adults who know how to swim but want to perfect their strokes and become a more efficient swimmer.

Adult Swim Clinic

 For those who already swim and want to improve their strokes, this class will work on stroke techniques and training tips that will make your strokes more efficient and increase your stamina. The class is taught by 2 professionally certified instructors who enjoy swimming as a life sport.

New to swimming or interested in learning some new techniques?  These evening classes will teach you new aquatic skills in a quick and easy manner.  Ages 15 and up.

Adult Swim Club

Need some support in your quest to get back in the pool?  Feel like some days your stroke is "off" and can't figure out what you are doing differently?  Looking for some good workouts to do in the pool?  Come try  Adult Swim Club!  This group is for beginners to master swimmers looking to be apart of a friendly aquatic orientated fitness group at the High Ridge YMCA.

Adult Swim Lessons

 Participants must be able to front and back float independently and swim half the length of the pool. This class is for the more advanced beginner who is already comfortable in the water but, is ready to take it to the next step.

Adult Triathlon Clincs

Ready to tackle your first traithlon but are unsure about the swimming segment? Or have you already tried one, but want to improve your swimming technique, spead and endurance? Sign up for our traitholon swimming clinics and not only gain confidence, but learn how to be more efficient in open water.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training

Learn the skills and knowledge required to become a lifeguard, including how to recognize, prevent and respond quickly to aquatic emergencies. Learn CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Oxygen Administration and First Aid.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor

This is an American Red Cross class. To train instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses, six levels of Learn-to-Swim, three levels of Preschool Aquatics and two levels of Parent and Child Aquatics. Fundamentals of Instructor Training is included with this course. Participants need to be 16 to take this course and be able to swim 25 yards of the 4 competitive strokes as well as elementary backstroke and sidestroke.

Challenge of the Great Lakes

Do you think you can swim cross one of the Great Lakes?  How about all of them?  Come and join the Challenge of the Great Lakes.  Simply sign up at the front desk.  Write down the number of laps you swim on a daily basis and we will keep track of them.  This is a free activity for member.

Create A Class

Can't make any of our swim times?  Have special needs that need to be addressed?  Create your own class!  This class is a hybrid of private lessons and group lessons  if there are four people who want to do a class at a different day and time then when we normally offer classes, fill out the Create Your Own Class Request Form and turn it in at the front desk. 

Groups must have between 4 and 6 people.  We can do swimming lessons, water fitness groups and almost any special training needs (triathlon, Boy Scouts, etc.).  All classes will be 1 hour long and are sold in groups of 1 or 5 lessons.

Indoor Triathlon

Lifeguard Challenges/Recertifications are for people who already have their American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification but need to recertify to stay current. 

Masters Swim Team

Masters Swimming is a great way to get the most out of your laps in the pool. Don't let the term Masters scare you. All levels of swimmers are welcome to join. Whether you are interested in competition or just getting in shape, we can help you with your stroke. Swimming with other people led by a trained coach will help you stay motivated. The coach will also help you improve your endurance and stroke technique.

Triathalon Training - Stroke Technique

Arthritis Aquatics (AFYAP)

The Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program (AFYAP) is a collaborative effort of two national organizations. This is a recreational exercise program with a wellness concept for people with arthritis to manage symptoms, maintain independence and enjoy life. This program is taught in a group setting with activities and exercises to encourage self care, provide social interaction, improve muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Joint Efforts

Joint Efforts is designed to increase range of motion and build muscle tone in those with joint issues or anyone who wants a non-impact exercise class. 

Low Impact Aquacise

This class uses slow, precise movements in the water. It is good for anyone with injuries, arthritis, MS or other physical challenges. The class focuses on range of motion using low impact exercise.

Fitness Boot Camp Adult (18+ yrs)

Aqua Boot Camp

Led by qualified instructors, this high intensity class combines a cardiovascular and muscle workout using water resistance to build up strength and tone muscles. Participants will burn calories while building strength and flexibility. It is low impact on the joints because the water will provide cushion. It is the perfect workout for people who don't like to sweat, people with limited movement, arthritis or an injury. Aqua Boot Camp increases intensity to work muscles to fatigue.

Baby Boot Camp

Get back into pre-baby shape and spend time with your baby while doing various resistance training exercises and cardio activities. Class will be outside weather permitting. Strollers are necessary. Children 6 months to 4 years old are welcome to attend.

Achieve your fitness goals with this high-energy, drill-based, interval session! Take charge of your day with this balanced workout combining cardio and strength exercises. Weight Loss Group Training Program
Through assessment comes training & nutritional guidance. This training program can provide you the personalized attention of a trainer at a lower cost in a supportive group environment. All of the exercises in the program can be scaled in difficulty to fit your individual needs.  The program will help you get in shape in a fun and challenging atmosphere. Each participant will receive a fitness assessment at the beginning and end of the program, nutritional guidance and group workouts. 

Move It To Lose It (MITLI) Bootcamp

MITLI is a weight loss program designed to help individuals achieve an overall lifestyle change. Participants get an intense cardio focused program throughout its duration. The class incorporates individualized plans, fitness assessments, challenging workouts, as well as nutritional information.

Weight Management Basics

The Basics of Weight Management designed especially for you based on your request and feedback.

The Weight Management class is a basic nutrition and physical activity class geared to help individuals learn how to maintain healthy weight. The class is split into half physical activity and half nutrition education.

Healthy Lifestyles Marathon

Cycle, Step, Pilates and Muscle Marathon.  Classes will run 30-minutes back to back for the two-hour period.  Registration Required!

Intro to Peak Pilates Workshop

Not sure what Peak Pilates is all about? This workshop will introduce you to the MVe Reformer and MVe Chair. Spend time on the chair and on the reformer. Workshop will include some lecture combined with workouts to ensure knowledge and understanding of equipment.

Mat Pilates

Pilates uses a series of controlled movements and mat work, engaging your body and mind to improve flexibility and strength. Level of impact: Low

Peak Pilates Perfect Pair

It's the perfect combination of the MVe Fitness Chair and Reformer in a 50/50 session.  This total body workout will challenge your core and develop your stamina while strengthening and lengthening your muscles.

Pilates

A full-body workout for all levels of fitness. This class is perfect for those who have never done Pilates or those who have prior Pilates experience. Pilates is a great way to get started or as a to compliment your existing exercises routine - for it builds stamina and endurance. The class consists of isometric exercises using your own body weight as resistance.

Pilates 3D

This Pilates class demonstrates the effective use of equipment that resembles the use of a Pilates reformer.

Pilates Chair I

With MVe's four levels of resistance intensity built right into the Fitness Chair, it opens up a new way to move that motivates, challenges, and accommodates all fitness levels. Designed to stretch and strengthen muscle groups that traditional techniques and equipment can't reach

Pilates Footwork Workshop

Many body aches & pains begin from the ground up.  If you wear arch supports, complain of flat feet, bunions, plantar fascitis, knees problems, tight hamstrings or lower back pain, this workshop is for you!  Pilates footwork on the Reformer will introduce you to proper postural alignment with the added bonus of working on your low abdominals.  After your footwork exercise, Massage Therapist will indulge you in a foot massage with Reflexology that is sure to make you feel like you're walking on air.

Pilates Magic Circle Workshop

Come to this fun and invigorating workshop to learn Pilates Magic Circle exercises. Transform the way your body feels, looks and performs. Pilates Mat

Pilates Mat: Floor exercises inspired by the work of Joseph Pilates that strengthen your body’s core muscles. Pilates exercises strengthen the body from the inside out.

Pilates MAT II (Intermediate Level)

Time to take Pilates to the next level? For those who have done MAT I or have a basic foundation of Pilates, this full-body workout focuses on strengthening your core as well as increasing flexibility. This class moves at a faster pace with more challenging exercises. Props such as foam rollers, resistance rings and bands will be incorporated.

Pilates Mat-Fundamentals

Increase your flexibility and tone and strengthen all of your muscles with this traditional Mat Pilates class. With an emphasis on breathing, core conditioning and body awareness, Pilates will strengthen without building bulk or stressing your joints.

Pilates Reformer I

An ideal entry level workout designed for all fitness levels and abilities, this workout combines beginning Pilates reformer exercises with stretches and postural patterns.

Pilates Reformer II

Delivers the Pilates experience in a fun and balanced fitness workout that is perfect for intermediate to advanced participants. An effective fusion of beginning Reformer exercises with traditional weight exercises, teaching participants to work from their core and gain new body awareness and definition.

Pilates Sculpt

This class combines basic Pilates movements with a light weight-training regimen to tone and sculpt. Level of impact: Low to Moderate

Pilates With Equipment

Pilates fusion, a unique blend of posture moves with the use of equipment. The majority of the class is run while standing.

Fine tune your Pilates moves with the assistance of foam roller.

PIYO

PIYO is a mix of Pilates and Power Yoga with stretching and dynamic movements to help increase strength, flexibility, core stability and balance. PIYO incorporates deep stretching and flowing movements with heat-building exercises to help you feel strong and refreshed.

Reformer

The Pilates Reformer is the most versatile and fun piece of equipment in the Pilates equipment repertiore. these group training sessions are for everyone, from the beginning exerciser to the advanced athlete and all those in between.

The class uses ankle weights, fit balls, Pilates balls, medicine balls and your own body weight to get to the deepest part of your abdomen, not to mention strengthening your back and toning your hips, butt and thighs. Go two times a week and you'll be the proud owner of a toned stomach and back!

Get Ready for a 5K/10K race with us! Participants will cover all training techniques for running including strength training, stretching, proper shoes and much more. Every week we will go on a planned distance run. The class will take place outside.

Couch to 5K

Want to run a 5K?  Not sure where to start?  This program is for you!  This beginner running program will get you out and running in a non-threatening atmosphere.  Program includes weekly group runs and training advice.  Finish with a 5K run.

Distance Club

This group meets weekly to allow you to prepare for a 10k, half-marathon or marathon. Enjoy the social aspect of doing long runs with a group of friendly faces.Must register to participate.

Get Running

Never run before?  Feeling nervous about starting?  Let us help you ease into it.  We will run together on a weekly basis.  We recommend workouts for the reminder of the week.  Maybe we can run together in the Pilgrim Pacer!

Indoor Triathlon

The indoor triathlon will include a 10 minute swim, 20 minute bike (cycle) and 15 minute run (treadmill).  There will be 10-minute transition times allowed.  Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Men and Women.  Men's and women's age division categories.  Must be 16 years of age or older to participate.

Running Club

Whether you are a beginner or are looking to train for a specific race, all are welcome!  This program helps new and experienced runners meet their running goals.

Triathlete Strength Training

Want to shave off some time on your swim, bike & run times?  What's a scientifically proven way to improve your performance and make yourself a better triathlete...STRENGTH TRAINING!!!!!  That's right, strengthening your body will give you many benefits to aid in enhancing your performance in any distance triathlon event.

Cycle Circuit

Multi-level, user friendly, non-impact, high energy work on the stationary bike (spinning) including resistance training intervals off the bike. This high energy class is set to motivating music to take you to the next level!

Cycle Strength Challenge

Take your cycle workout to the next level!  This class combines intervals of cycling and hand-held weights to improve endurance and strength.  This class will conclude with balance, flexibility and yoga stretches.

Cycle Yoga

This cycle (spinning) class is followed by a series of yoga stretches.

Cycling Madness

This cycling (spinning) class simulates an outdoor ride and increases cardiovascular capacity by combining endurance, interval training and cadence control. The Ride will help build and maintain endurance year-round, especially during the off-season.

Group Cycle

Is a high-intensity cardio spinning workout performed at your own level. Set to music, the work is done on a stationary bike built to look like a road racing bicycle. Classes offered for both the beginner and advanced level.

Group Ride

What is Group Ride? Everyone finishes first in Group Ride! Roll over hills, chase the pack, climb mountains and spin your way to burning calories and strengthening your body. This cycling program is geared for anyone who can ride a bike. Motivating music, awesome instructors, and an inspiring group environment lets you Ride On!

Indoor Cycle

State of the art bikes!  This unique stationary bike class takes you on a ride that you will not soon forget.  Excellent for the avid cyclist as well as those who want to add to their workout.  Bike shorts are recommended.  A towel and a full water bottle are required.  Those members and program members who are on the roster will get priority on bike availability.

Indoor Cycling

Come and experience our indoor cycling class on our stationary bikes. Highly trained instructors will challenge all fitness levels to reach their potential in this heart-rate-based workout. A water bottle is necessary.

Water Fitness Adult (18+ yrs)

Adult Swim Workout

Structured swim workout run by USA triathlete coach Dave Polkow.

Aqua Boot Camp

Led by qualified instructors, this high intensity class combines a cardiovascular and muscle workout using water resistance to build up strength and tone muscles. Participants will burn calories while building strength and flexibility. It is low impact on the joints because the water will provide cushion. It is the perfect workout for people who don't like to sweat, people with limited movement, arthritis or an injury. Aqua Boot Camp increases intensity to work muscles to fatigue.

Aqua Kickboxing

Calling all Water Warriors! The aqua kickboxing class is ideal for those looking to spice up everyday fitness routines. Join us for heart-pumping, muscle building exercises that will leave you saying, "I didn't even know I had muscles there!"

Aquatic Tai Ji (Tai Chi)

A fun, low-stress way to exercise and relax your whole body. Tai Ji and Chi Gong movements (ancient Chinese forms of exercise designed to enhance health) are done in warm, standing-height water to allow for strain-free, full-range, integrated muscle movements to aid balance and increase body control. No swimming skills required.

Arthritis Aquatics (AFYAP)

The Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program (AFYAP) is a collaborative effort of two national organizations. This is a recreational exercise program with a wellness concept for people with arthritis to manage symptoms, maintain independence and enjoy life. This program is taught in a group setting with activities and exercises to encourage self care, provide social interaction, improve muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Challenge of the Great Lakes

Do you think you can swim cross one of the Great Lakes?  How about all of them?  Come and join the Challenge of the Great Lakes.  Simply sign up at the front desk.  Write down the number of laps you swim on a daily basis and we will keep track of them.  This is a free activity for member.

Create A Class

Can't make any of our swim times?  Have special needs that need to be addressed?  Create your own class!  This class is a hybrid of private lessons and group lessons  if there are four people who want to do a class at a different day and time then when we normally offer classes, fill out the Create Your Own Class Request Form and turn it in at the front desk. 

Groups must have between 4 and 6 people.  We can do swimming lessons, water fitness groups and almost any special training needs (triathlon, Boy Scouts, etc.).  All classes will be 1 hour long and are sold in groups of 1 or 5 lessons.

Deep Water Aerobics

Let the buoyancy of the water keep you afloat and its resistance give you a workout. This deep water class is an excellent cardiovascular and toning workout. It is ideal for those whose joints cannot tolerate an impact class.

Fit-N-Flex

Fit and Flex is a great way to get a cardio and muscle flexibility workout at the same time in the pool.  A good class for those who want a great heart pumping workout!

Joint Efforts

Joint Efforts is designed to increase range of motion and build muscle tone in those with joint issues or anyone who wants a non-impact exercise class. 

Low Impact Aquacise

This class uses slow, precise movements in the water. It is good for anyone with injuries, arthritis, MS or other physical challenges. The class focuses on range of motion using low impact exercise.

MS Aquacize Certified

MS Society certified program for water fitness.

Power Splash

Power Splash is a high intensity cardio water workout!  It is a calorie busting heart pumping splashtastic way to spend your time!

Prenatal Water Workout

For women in all stages of pregnancy, this class will focus on circulation, overall health and fitness. Each class will be adapted to fit the needs of participants.

Sunrise Splash

An energizing combination of cardiovascular work and toning. This class is held mainly in the shallow water, however, will include deep water work. Modifications will be available for those not comfortable with deep water.

Swimnastics

A harder workout than the Aqua Aerobics class and Silver Splash class. This is more intense aerobic workout using the water for resistance. This class makes use of the deep end of the pool. The ability to swim safely in the deep end is a prerequisite for this class. This class is taught by YMCA Aqua Fitness staff.

Therapeutic Aquacise

This class uses slow, precise movements in the water. It is good for anyone with injuries, arthritis, MS or other physical challenges.  This class is taught by a certified Therapist.
 

Water Aerobics

If a land class causes stress on your joints, try this shallow and deep water, exercise class. Join the growing number of people who have discovered the fun and value of water exercise. Must be comfortable in deep water.

Water Fitness

This is an excellent cardiovascular workout with minimal strain on your joints. Increased muscle tone, flexibility and range of motion are the primary benefits of all water exercise programs.

Water In Motion

Water in Motion is the newest aqua exercise workout that provides low impact, high energy challenge for participants of all ages, skill and fitness level. Jump in and make a splash with this dynamic cardiovascular workout that tones and tapers the entire body. With land equivalent intensity, fantastic sing-along quality music, and dynamic instructors, enjoy the pure fun of this 60 minute water extravaganza. Enroll in the program and "catch the wave"!

You and Me Baby Aqua Exercise

This class is for prenatal and postpartum moms. It will help you tone, strengthen, increase flexibility, boost your energy and aid in delivery as well as postpartum recovery. Exercise right up to delivery and return as soon as possible after. Moms with infants under five months are welcome to bring the baby into the pool during class. No swimming skills are needed.

Zumba Adult (18+ yrs)

Zumba

A Latin, dance-inspired aerobic workout for total body fitness. The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body, with easy-to-follow dance steps.

Zumba Fitness Party

Zumba Tone and Zumba Express

With an infusion of Latin and International music, Zumba combines high-energy exercise with unique moves and combinations that allow participants to dance away their worries.

Ballet Adult (18+ yrs)

Adult/Teen Ballet

This class will give you the basic techniques of ballet.  Barre work and center floor work will be covered.  Solid color leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slipper are required for females.  Males should wear solid leotard, black tights and black ballet shoes. (Costume requirements may vary by local YMCA, please contact your center for details).

Ballet Barre

Want the legs of a dancer but don't have the time? Come join us for a fun hour long Ballet Barre exercise class. Includes leg strengthening, stretching, abdominal and balance work and more. A workout targeted specifically for lengthening your muscles, improving posture and adding some grace into your everyday movement! No prior ballet or dance experience necessary. Some floor work involved so bring a yoga mat if you have one.

Ballroom Dance Adult (18+ yrs)

Dance Like the Stars!

Intro to Ballroom: This great class for beginners lets you learn at your own pace. Class includes dances such as the Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha, Swing, Tango and Rhumba. Singles and couples welcome.

Intermediate Ballroom Dance: This class is for those who know the basics but wish to fine tune their dancing skills. Only two class-chosen dances will be taught during the session so that you may focus on each selected dance. Singles and couples welcome.

Dance! Baila! Dance!

Norm Viray and Fran Strain are co-founders of DanceMates Educational Arts, and co-host the Friday Night Chicago Access Network TV Channel 19 show, You Can Dance! With DanceMates! Norm and Fran have taught dance classes at IPY since 1996. Their 6-week dance classes are designed for all skill levels.

Come join us for this choreography based modern jazz class. There will be some technique taught along with a fun, simple routine. Wear comfortable clothing and jazz shoes or bare foot. Leotard not required!

Gardening Adult (18+ yrs)

Gardening for Adults

Learn about gardening and planting of vegetables and plants with a group of adults. Gardening is more fun in a community!

Aqua Boot Camp

Led by qualified instructors, this high intensity class combines a cardiovascular and muscle workout using water resistance to build up strength and tone muscles. Participants will burn calories while building strength and flexibility. It is low impact on the joints because the water will provide cushion. It is the perfect workout for people who don't like to sweat, people with limited movement, arthritis or an injury. Aqua Boot Camp increases intensity to work muscles to fatigue.

Baby Boot Camp

Get back into pre-baby shape and spend time with your baby while doing various resistance training exercises and cardio activities. Class will be outside weather permitting. Strollers are necessary. Children 6 months to 4 years old are welcome to attend.

Bodycombat

This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai.

Boot Camp

Achieve your fitness goals with this high-energy, drill-based, interval session! Take charge of your day with this balanced workout combining cardio and strength exercises. We will use functional movements to improve the cardiovascular and muscular systems. Your agility, strength, cardiovascular fitness and core stabilization will be challenged through body-weight and equipment-based drills.

BOSU Core-uption

Bosu means "both sides up". In this balance/core training class, expect to be challenged with exciting new movement patterns and exercises on a Bosu, and be prepared to leave with a new appreciation for what "total body workout" really means.

Box N Burn

Uniquely mixes cardio boxing combinations and core training into a fat torching, muscle sculpting interval workout guaranteed to whip you into shape using a class format that's both fun and challenging!

Boxing Challenge

This class teaches real boxing techniques, punches and footwork. Participants will use hand wraps, boxing gloves, focus mitts, and heavy bags for punching and kicking drills. Other conditioning exercises may include sprints, jumping rope, medicine ball drills, and lower/upper back strengthening. Supplies are not included. Contact Fitness Director for details.

Boxing lessons

The ultimate workout. You can punch away pounds and stress and get a great cardio workout by jumping rope, shadow boxing or hitting focus mitts to high energy tunes. So, if you're looking for a challenge, check out our boxing program.

Cardio and Strength

All fitness levels are welcome! Improve your heart, lungs, bone strength, and lean muscle mass. This class combines calorie burning cardio (cardiovascular) and strength building.

Cardio Blast

Get the entire cardiovascular workout you need in this class that will include step, hi/ low aerobics or a mix of both. Stretching and relaxation cool down at the end of class.

Cardio Boxing

We work to teach you basic boxing skills that are used for different punching drills that can be used for self defense or just to get you into better shape.

Cardio Burn (AKA Build N Burn)

This class features work with the body bar and free weights. You will work on abdominals, as well as strengthening the upper and lower body. Level of impact: Low

Cardio Circuit with Baby/Toddler

What a great class for Babies/Toddlers who want to have fun and work out with mom/dad. With mom/dad's help, this class teaches children the basics of listening, following directions & socializing in a classroom setting. This is still a full hour workout for parents with a warm up, stretch, alternating intervals of hi/low impact cardio and strength training, cool down, stretch and abdominals. Note: Use of baby carrier recommended for babies not yet walking. Toys and snacks are welcome into class.

Cardio Conditioning

Total body sculpting with continuous movement that focuses on muscular strength and endurance. This class utilizes a variety of equipment weights, balls, steps, tubes, etc. It will certainly give you a total body workout!

Cardio Kickboxing (All Levels)

This high-energy class utilizes practical self-defense techniques. Combined with high and low impact moves to improve cardiovascular endurance, you will jab, kick and jump through a great workout! Come burn off lots of calories and stress all at the same time.

Cardio Mix

Class time will be split between an energetic, calorie-burning step workout and a weight-bearing, tone-and-tightening workout for all fitness levels.

This class will push you past your limits with workouts packed with plyometric drills on top of nonstop intervals of strength, power, resistance, and ab and core training moves.  Minimal equipment is needed. Tabata Training

The Tabata protocol is a high-intensity training regimen that produces remarkable results.  A Tabata workout is an interval training cycle of 20 seconds of maximum intensity exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated without pause 8 times for a total of four minutes.  Class is designed for intermediate to advanced exercisers.

Taking it to the Streets

Join us th is summer when we take it outside.  Different forms of exercise will be featured each week, including walking, biking and outdoor exercises.

Hatha Yoga

Gain the benefits of stretching, core strengthening, overall body toning and awareness. Hatha classes place emphasis on physical alignment, understanding of correct anatomical movement, and various deep relaxation techniques. Intro To Mindful Living

The importance taking time for self-refection and slowing down can be a powerful tool for living calmly in the midst of our busy lives.  Learning and practicing mindful living can help in dealing with life challenges, reducing daily stress as well as enhancing overall well-being.  In this workshop, you will learn new stretching and deep breathing techniques which can be both relaxing and restorative to a strong sense of self.  This lesson is a wonderful give.  Please dress comfortably. 

Intro to Peak Pilates Workshop

Not sure what Peak Pilates is all about? This workshop will introduce you to the MVe Reformer and MVe Chair. Spend time on the chair and on the reformer. Workshop will include some lecture combined with workouts to ensure knowledge and understanding of equipment.

Moving and Healing Workshop

Moving and Healing Workshop

A women’s workshop held at the Buehler YMCA is on healing for the mind and body. Come take a break . Release the build up of tension and stress and experience a healing class. The class will have three components including:

Energy Balancing

We will learn some simple dance steps and by focusing on releasing tension and stress, you will better loosen up your body and mind and awaken your senses again! No previous dance experience necessary. Be sure to bring your sneakers and loose comfortable clothing.

Meditation for Relaxation and Release

We will start with some easy yoga stretches and gentle poses then we will learn deep relaxation techniques that allow for your muscles and whole body to find release and peace. Meditation calms the mind, reduces muscle tension and relaxes the nervous system. Please bring a blanket or something comfortable and warm to lie on and a yoga mat, if you have one.

Reconnect with yourself again!

This workshop will be taught by Sandra Alguire, BFA in dance from University of Michigan, who is a former professional dancer and certified NIA instructor with 20+ years experience in yoga, body/mind work and meditation. Meets in the Matt Room.

Pilates MAT II (Intermediate Level)

Time to take Pilates to the next level? For those who have done MAT I or have a basic foundation of Pilates, this full-body workout focuses on strengthening your core as well as increasing flexibility. This class moves at a faster pace with more challenging exercises. Props such as foam rollers, resistance rings and bands will be incorporated.

Pilates Reformer I

An ideal entry level workout designed for all fitness levels and abilities, this workout combines beginning Pilates reformer exercises with stretches and postural patterns.

Pilates Reformer II

Delivers the Pilates experience in a fun and balanced fitness workout that is perfect for intermediate to advanced participants. An effective fusion of beginning Reformer exercises with traditional weight exercises, teaching participants to work from their core and gain new body awareness and definition.

Pilates Sculpt

This class combines basic Pilates movements with a light weight-training regimen to tone and sculpt. Level of impact: Low to Moderate

PIYO

PIYO is a mix of Pilates and Power Yoga with stretching and dynamic movements to help increase strength, flexibility, core stability and balance. PIYO incorporates deep stretching and flowing movements with heat-building exercises to help you feel strong and refreshed.

Power Yoga Workshop

The workshop will bring a deeper awareness to the body, mind, breath & spirit.  Blend the focus of yoga, the precision of Pilate and the muscular engagement of strength training and free weights.  The added component of resistance challenges will take your workout to a new level!

Qigong and Tai Chi

Qigong (Chi-Kung) is used as a healing art. This class will include a warm-up to loosen the joints followed by a series of standing exercises with simple Tai Chi choreography performed in a slow, flowing, continuous movement pattern. Studies show that with regular practice, Tai Chi can relieve stress, ease pain and stiffness, elevate mood, lower blood pressure, aid in fall prevention and provide other health benefits.

Tai Chi

Simple Tai Chi choreography, performed in a slow, flowing, continuous movement pattern improves balance, coordination, focus and concentration. Studies show that with regular practice, Tai Chi can relieve stress, ease pain and stiffness, elevate mood, lower blood pressure, and provide other health benefits.

Therapeutic Aquacise

This class uses slow, precise movements in the water. It is good for anyone with injuries, arthritis, MS or other physical challenges.  This class is taught by a certified Therapist.
 

Yoga

Yoga is designed to develop flexibility, health and relaxation of the mind. It stretches each area of the body, loosens joints and muscles for all fitness levels. Classes available for both beginner and advanced participants.

Yoga Essentials (Level II)

This class is for students who have taken Yoga Fundamentals or have had recent experience in yoga. Instructors build on the foundation set by Yoga Fundamentals by offering more challenging options and techniques, and by addressing select elements in greater detail.

Arthritis Aquatics (AFYAP)

The Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program (AFYAP) is a collaborative effort of two national organizations. This is a recreational exercise program with a wellness concept for people with arthritis to manage symptoms, maintain independence and enjoy life. This program is taught in a group setting with activities and exercises to encourage self care, provide social interaction, improve muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

BOSU Core-uption

PLYO-BLE

Are you familiar with plyometrics? This relatively new, scientific approach to training is designed for all fitness levels in mind and meant to be challenging both physically and mentally. This program will help you build upon each other to help you achieve that desired result!

Plyometric Training

This modified form of strength training is geared toward the athlete looking for that extra edge. Tone it up!

This multi-level class is for anyone who wants to develop muscular strength and endurance.  We'll tackle "basic" resistance training exercises using traditional, strategic principles.  This simple, easy to follow workout challenges every major muscle using a variety of equipment.

Tone with your Tot

This class will help strengthen your own body by doing some fun fitness with your child.  This class will use movement and music so you will get a workout and your child will have a great time.  A combination of strength and cardio movements will satisfy you and your little one.

Total Body Challenge

Take both classes (Ultimate Cardio & Aerobic Strength Training) together and get a total body challenge! Classes include a strong emphasis on core strength, muscular endurance, and balance exercises in combination with overall strength training.

Total Body Sculpt

This workout uses standing and floor exercises to train your muscles. A variety of resistance training equipment is used to improve muscle strength, endurance and power.

Tri Training

TRX Suspension Training

Body Blast This program moves through a variety of exercises including: warm-up, upper body, lower body and core. This program engages all your muscles with this non-stop total body workout.

Tums, Legs and Buns

This class uses the best aspects of Pilates, yoga and abs classes and combines them into one hard-core, core-focused 45 minutes. The class uses ankle weights, fit balls, Pilates balls, medicine balls and your own body weight to get to the deepest part of your abdomen, not to mention strengthening your back and toning your hips, butt and thighs. Go two times a week and you'll be the proud owner of a toned stomach and back!

Ultimate Conditioning

A challenging body sculpting class designed to increase strength and muscle tone using weights, bands, and stability balls.

Ultimate S.E.T. (Strength Endurance Training)

(Advanced Level) It's the ultimate workout! This program will focus on continual movements that integrate the entire body while targeting large muscle groups and lighter workloads. This is a great cardio and strength workout all in one.

Ultimate S.E.T. Bootcamp

Non-Stop Strength & Cardio Workout All In One!!

This class is a unique combination of cable tower training, cardio, endurance and functional muscle strength. Class will be split between the Aerobics Studio for tower strength training and the Gym for agility/cardio endurance training.

Ultimate S.E.T. Workshop

The workshop will introduce you to our Ultimate S.E.T. (Strength/Endurance/Training) classes that are offered during regular sessions.  Program focuses on continual movement integrating the entire body using "Functional Training".  Class will target large muscles and use lighter workloads.  This is a great cardio & strength workout all in one.  Workshop will include proper tower set-up & usage along with take home cable workouts for you to do on your own.  Class size is kept small!

Ultimate Toning

This is a unique class taught by one of our newest Fitness Instructors. It is complete toning using equipment and the Bosu Ball. It is a great sculpt and toning class that is combined with a lot of energy and work.

Ultimate Upper Body

This 30 minute class builds muscle and firms the upper body. Using resistance-training methods, your upper body will be transformed in no time.

Y Weight

Building strength is a great way to spend your lunch hour. A cardio warm up is followed by basic strength training.

MITLI is a weight loss program designed to help individuals achieve an overall lifestyle change. Participants get an intense cardio focused program throughout its duration. The class incorporates individualized plans, fitness assessments, challenging workouts, as well as nutritional information.
