The teen years can be challenging, but they can also be a time of opportunity. Teens search for a sense of purpose, responsibility, independence and belonging. We offer many programs that are tailored to bring out the best qualities in teens and we make it fun!
Basketball Teen (13-17 yrs)
This class will get players in shape while working on the fundamentals of basketball. Athletes will need to come ready to run and condition while learning the passing, shooting and dribbling skills of basketball.
Cycling (indoor) Teen (13-17 yrs)
This class will be 30-45 minutes of cycling and 15-30 minutes of working your CORE muscles. This class is excellent for the beginner to intermediate cyclist as well as those who want to add to their workout. Bike shorts are recommended. A towel and a full water bottle are required.
Dodgeball Teen (13-17 yrs)
Like dodgeball, but don’t have a place to play it? Come join us for this half hour of Dodgeball Madness. We will pick a different variation of the game to play each week including Doctor, Cageball, and of course, basic dodgeball. If you like to dodge, duck , dip and dive, then this class is for you.
Flag Football Teen (13-17 yrs)
Come enjoy this non-competitive league that focuses on the fundamentals while having FUN! This football league is perfect for beginners and those who want to improve their skills. League details, schedule and rules vary by center, contact your YMCA for information.
Frisbee Teen (13-17 yrs)
This class will include play ultimate frisbee while working on your cardiovascular fitness. You will learn how to play ultimate frisbee while have a great time with your peers. This class may meet outside weather permitting.
Gymnastics Teen (13-17 yrs)
This class will teach advanced gymnastics skills. Participants must be able to pass a level 3 evaluation and/or have permission from the director.
Girls will learn advanced tumbling skills with concentration on the flip flop. Students must have at least a level 3 competency in tumbling or have been moved up from Beginning Tumbling, to take this class.
Martial Arts Teen (13-17 yrs)
Aikido is a Japanese martial art that is an effective form of self defense for students of all ages and fitness levels. You will learn how to avoid conflicts and defend yourself against a variety of attacks such as grabs, punches, kicks, and chokes. Aikido technique practice also improves balance, coordination, and flexibility.
Prerequisite: Green Belt or High Green Belt - This class is the next step for students who have perfected their foundation techniques and have progressed to an intermediate skill level. Form, self-defense and Korean language skills are still practiced. Students continue to hone their skills in all areas but a greater emphasis is placed on fitness and personal development. Contact sparring and ground grappling are also introduced at this level.

This beginning level martial arts class geared for pre-teens and teens. Train together in a variety of styles, with Kenpo Karate as the foundation.
Teen Martial Arts and Self Defense
A traditional style of martial arts. Students will learn self-defense and fitness training techniques.
Martial arts is great fun for kids and a great way to give kids a head start on life. Instructors will teach the positive benefits of self-discipline and confidence, develop coordination and increase strength and flexibility. These classes are for beginners, White to Yellow belts only, but some centers allow all levels.
Racquetball Teen (13-17 yrs)
Learn and practice the basics of racquetball in group environment. Racquet and safety goggles required.
Rock Climbing Teen (13-17 yrs)
This programs combines climbing, team building and Nintendo Wii. Join us for an exciting combination of fun and fitness.
Instruction and basic movement & technique class. This is a progressive class that takes participants from the basic to the intermediate skills of climbing. Participants will learn harness and belay set up, top rope belay techniques, knots, movement on the rock, bouldering, safety skills, and goal setting. Upon successful completion of the belayers skill development program and belay test, climbers may progress to our Rock Solid Program.
This class is for participants who are beginners or who have mastered the basic rock climbing techniques and are looking to meet new people as well as continue to develop their climbing skills. Participants will learn to rappel, belay, use routes and much more.
Mountaineers is an introductory climbing class for that teaches the basics of climbing in a fun and safe setting. This class will educate climbers on basic climbing technique, gear setup, communication skills, and harness set-up and safety. Participants will use auto belay system and be belayed by instructor throughout the class. Climbers will set goals to achieve by the end of the session. Mountaineers exposes kids to the art of climbing while encouraging continued involvement and enjoyment of the sport.
Our Rock Solid Class is fro those climbers who have successfully completed our belayer skills development and belay test. Climbers will earn advanced foot placements, body movements, route climbing, as well as an intro to lead climbing, quickdraws, lead belaying, and rope management. Climbers in this program have an opportunity to participate on our Youth Demo Team.
Rock Solid Climbing Competition

This class is for participants who are beginners or who have mastered the basic climbing techniques from one of our previous classes and are looking to meet new people as well as continue to develop their climbing skills. Participants will learn to rappel, belay, use routes, master the high ropes and much more.
This is a wonderful class for kids that are curious about the wold of climbing. Children will learn to climb, build confidence and increase self esteem. This class is run in conjunction with Seaspar.
Are you interested in learning all there is to know about our 23 foot climbing wall? Do you have a desire to learn the techniques of belaying and knot tying? If you answered yes to those questions, then you need to register for this course, without hesitation. This course could very well lead to volunteer opportuniities on our wall, assisting with open climb and rentals. Don't minimize the possibility of you becoming a part of our legendary adventure team when you turn 16.
Skateboarding Teen (13-17 yrs)

This is class is for the mature skater who knows the ups and downs of skating. Improve your stunts and tricks. Master the flip turn. Dominate the fun box and be able to call it your very own. Safety is still vitally important in this class and we'll continue to cover this crucial aspect of this exhilarating sport. Helmets and knee pads are required to skate.
Designed for the beginner through intermediate skater. Our skate instructors will teach both flat land, rail, and ramp techniques in these exciting classes.
Sports Samplers and Skills Teen (13-17 yrs)
Teens are you ready for an evening away from your parents? Do you want to chill with your friends and experience some interactive gaming? Then the VIP Teen Night is just for you! Sports, games, movies, pizza, rock climbing and much more! We will venture out in the evening to particpate in a recreational activity.
Swimming Teen (13-17 yrs)
Guard Start: Lifeguarding Tomorrow is an exciting junior lifeguard class for 11-14 year olds. Participants will build a foundation of knowledge, swimming, and leadership skills to help in future completion of a lifeguard class. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards front crawl and breaststroke, and be comfortable in deep water.
The Junior Lifeguard class is a great way to introduce lifesaving skills to young people. The class is taught by a variety of veteran lifeguard staff. Topics covered include water safety, basic water rescues, CPR and Rescue Breathing and first aid. Participants must be able to swim at a Minnow level or above.
Lifeguard Challenges/Recertifications
Lifeguard Challenges/Recertifications are for people who already have their American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification but need to recertify to stay current.
For those who already swim and want to improve their strokes, this class will work on stroke techniques and training tips that will make your strokes more efficient and increase your stamina. The class is taught by professionally certified instructors who enjoy swimming as a life sport.
Synchronized Swimming challenges the creativity of swimmer by combining the movements of dance with swimming skills. Students work to improve stroke form and endurance while gaining confidence and poise. Swimmers may participate in performances and competitions and must be able to swim at a Fish level or higher.
Teen Swim Lessons are specifically geared towards teens ages 12 to 15 years old. These classes are swimming lessons just more fun! Teen will practice and learn skills beginning at their ability level while making friends and learning life-long water safety skills, games and activities!

Clinics are opened to High School Freshman-Seniors who are currently not on a club volleyball team. During the 2 hour clinics athletes will learn skills to help improve their volleyball techniques. These classes will go for 6 weeks, once a week; each week working on different volleyball skills.

This class will give you the basic techniques of ballet. Barre work and center floor work will be covered. Solid color leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slipper are required for females. Males should wear solid leotard, black tights and black ballet shoes. (Costume requirements may vary by local YMCA, please contact your center for details).
Guitar Teen (13-17 yrs)
Learn chords, simple strums, and tuning in a fun, relaxed group setting. You'll be introduced to the basic elements of rhythm and harmony that will have you playing guitar and singing in no time! Please note: Participants are required to bring their own acoustic, electric, or classical guitar to class.
Cardio Teen (13-17 yrs)
All fitness levels are welcome! Improve your heart, lungs, bone strength, and lean muscle mass. This class combines calorie burning cardio (cardiovascular) and strength building.
