This coed instructional class will focus on teaching the basics of dribbling, passing, and shooting for beginners as well as more experienced players. Rim Crashers basketball focuses on developing teamwork and sportsmanship. Age-appropriate equipment will be used.
Schools Out Winter Basketball Camp
Come one, come all, it is basketball week at the Lattof YMCA December 26-30. School's out and the baskeballs are in. We will work on skills, but also have a variety of games, tournaments, an contests. During the week we will have contests including; a free throw tournament, hot shot basketball, knockout tournament, and a 3 on 3 tournamnet.

This coed beginner's instructional class will focus on teaching the basics of dribbling, passing and shooting. Rookies Basketball focuses on developing a positive attitude about fair play and teamwork. An eight-foot rim, junior size ball and instruction from our YMCA sports instructors makes learning the fundamentals of basketball a slam dunk!
Our program focuses on fundamentals and incorporating sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership and fun. Our clinics, held during the first half of the season will focus on both offensive and defensive skills. Players will work together within their age groups to develop solid fundamentals, learning the rules of the game, ball handling, movement on the court, working as a team member, shooting, rebounding, and player-to-player defense. The second half of the season teams will be formed and games will be played. However, we will still be highly focused on skill development.
There are no tryouts, and everyone plays equally with our fun and exciting format. All clinic sessions will be directed by our YMCA basketball staff. Our program begin in mid fall and will continue through mid-spring. Players and teams will be scheduled for a one hour clinic/practice/or games within the times listed.

Firday Night Lights Floor Hockey
This program is for the boys and girls who love floor hockey. Participants will learn skills and play floor hockey every week.. If you love floor hockey then this is the perfect program for you! The next five weeks games against fellow participants.

The YMCA youth hockey league is a no check league and is designed to teach the great game of hockey to boys and girls ages 6-15. The emphasis is on improving the player's skills and having fun! All games and practices are held at the Elmhurst YMCA. Practice during the week and games on Saturday or Sunday.
Golf Youth (6-12 yrs)
Play the innovative game of disc golf. Learn to throw, drive and putt your disc for the lowest score. This class is for everyone who wants to have fun.
Gymnastics Youth (6-12 yrs)
This class will teach advanced gymnastics skills. Participants must be able to pass a level 3 evaluation and/or have permission from the director.
Little to no experience in gymnastics. Will receive an introduction to all of the boy’s events. They will learn beginner skills such as rolls and cartwheels on floor, swings and hangs on parallel bars, rings and high bar and basics on pommel horse. Builds the strength and fundamentals to move on in gymnastics.
This class is great for young beginners with little to no experience in gymnastics. Will receive an introduction to all of the events. Builds the strength and fundamentals to move on in gymnastics.
Boys and girls will learn levels 1, 2 and 3 skills of tumbling. They will also work on the Tumble Trak and learn how to use the spring board (varies by local YMCA).
This technique class will incorporate ballet barre work, exercise done in the center, and combinations done traveling across floor. We will work on creating long lines, pointed toes, strong cores, confident performance skills, and improve leaps and turns. The focus will be giving gymnasts a clear understanding of dance technique and helping them apply this knowledge to their gymnastic training.
Little or no experience in gymnastics. Girls will learn body positions, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls and basics on the apparatus.

Swingers build on the skills and elements of Rollers. This level complements and rounds out the developmental information needed to give gymnasts a sound background. In this class they will learn all the elements that will carry over and add to everything that gymnasts will learn.

Handball has been called The Perfect Game for many reasons. Handball is a lifetime sport that develops great hand/eye coordination, footwork, agility, and quick thinking. In this class we focus on developing solid fundamentals.
In the team class players learn the more advanced skills of the game. Strategy, shot selection and mechanics, pre-shoot positioning, off hand development, offensive and defensive techniques are all focused on. These players have an opportunity to compete on a local as well as a national and world level as they demonstrate the YMCA core values both on and off the court.
Team Handball is a mix of soccer, hockey, and basketball. The class will consist of learning the rules and skills needed to play this fast paced sport.

A great introduction to this challenging and fulfilling sport. The core elements are covered in this class; learning to get going and stopping; making turns and going down ramps. Safety tips will covered extensively. Helmets and knee pads are required to skate.
This class will be split into halves. The first half will be spent skateboarding in our skate park. The second half will be dedicated towards climbing at our rock climbing wall. Basically, you're getting the best of both worlds in the adventure realm.

Martial Arts Youth (6-12 yrs)
Aikido is a Japanese martial art that is an effective form of self defense for students of all ages and fitness levels. You will learn how to avoid conflicts and defend yourself against a variety of attacks such as grabs, punches, kicks, and chokes. Aikido technique practice also improves balance, coordination, and flexibility.
This class will focus on basics including stretching, stances, kicks and basic forms. No uniforms are needed and participants should wear loose pants.
This class is geared toward white and yellow belt practitioners and individuals who are new to the martial arts. Students will be trained in the traditional Korean art of Tae Kwon Do (literally means "the art of kicking and punching"). They will learn Korean terminology and counting as well as falling, rolling, kicking, punching and self-defense skills. A strong emphasis is placed on self-discipline and concentration, making it an ideal art for children with problems in those areas.

Hapkido means the way of harmony and power. It is an effective Korean martial art consisting of joint locks and pressure point control techniques. Students will learn defense against chokeholds, grabs, throws, headlocks, wrist & arm grabs, and attacks with weapons. Students will also learn legal and street-safe techniques to handle a variety of real world situations. Hapkido is also a way of staying healthy and fit.
Prerequisite: Green Belt or High Green Belt - This class is the next step for students who have perfected their foundation techniques and have progressed to an intermediate skill level. Form, self-defense and Korean language skills are still practiced. Students continue to hone their skills in all areas but a greater emphasis is placed on fitness and personal development. Contact sparring and ground grappling are also introduced at this level.
Judo literally means the gentle way. This ancient martial art makes use of the opponent's strength to overcome him. The main techniques of this art are tripping, sweeping, throwing and both stand up and ground grappling. A significant portion of class time is also spent learning how to fall safely and controlling your opponent on the ground.
This clinic is offered to all enrolled participants who are yellow belt and up. Once a month we will be rotating between a kata (forms) clinic and kumite (sparring) clinic. This will be a class where time will be spent on technique for a specific kata and more technical (timing, distancing, power, and control) aspects of kumite. Check with your instructor to see what will be covered on a specific month.

Little Warriors Martial Arts class is a unique style class for kids which includes basic fitness, kicks, punches and form training primarily from the art of Tae Kwondo. Each child will learn on their own individual level of understanding.

Rock Climbing Youth (6-12 yrs)
This programs combines climbing, team building and Nintendo Wii. Join us for an exciting combination of fun and fitness.
Participants will combine the skills they may have learned in Pike’s Tikes, and learn more of the skills needed to become a successful climber and belayer. Focus will be on knot tying,equipment use, set-up, and climbing commands.The group will learn how to safely climb up the high ropes course in this class, as well as other fun activities such as Giant’s Ladder and Pamper Pole. Climbers will set personal climbing goals to achieve by the end of the session.
This class is basically for kids just starting out and yearning to get their climbing career underway. We will provide the necessary tools and motivation to ensure that the students will have a positive experience. The basic elements of climbing; commands, technique, and confidence are the cornerstone of this class.
Instruction and basic movement & technique class. This is a progressive class that takes participants from the basic to the intermediate skills of climbing. Participants will learn harness and belay set up, top rope belay techniques, knots, movement on the rock, bouldering, safety skills, and goal setting. Upon successful completion of the belayers skill development program and belay test, climbers may progress to our Rock Solid Program.
The kids will learn all the basics of rock climbing for the first part of class, and than spend the 2nd half of class in the pool learning the basics of swimming, all while having FUN!

Their afternoons will be filled with field games, crafts, science experiments, and even homework time if you are interested! We are pulling no punches. This is the "final destination" for all wall crawlers. The Final Destination is more advanced and daunting than our very own hallowed Mt. Lion class. This is our rock climbing class for kids who are interested in participating in a new adventure. Children will learn the basics of climbing and climbing safety. All participants will wear a harness and helmet. The class will focus on bouldering, which is climbingthe wall horizontally, and be introduced into climbing the wall vertically as they progress throughout the program.

This is the ultimate advanced rock climbing class in our portfolio. Kids will ultimately learn how to self belay and belay other climbers. No stone will be left unturned in the world of climbing in this challenging class. Advanced climbing games will be offered in this course. We will be taking a field trip to another climbing wall on the last day of class.
This is a class for the climber who has had at least a year of climbing under his/her belt. We will undertake the daunting task of route climbing. We will also learn knot tying and other advanced rock climbing procedures.

Pikes Tikes is an introductory climbing class for children ages 6-8 that teaches the basics of climbing in a fun and safe setting. This class will educate climbers on basic climbing techniques, gear setup, communication skills,and harness set-up and safety. Participants will use the auto-belay system as well as being belayed by an instructor on the wall throughout the class. Climbers will set goals to achieve by the end of the session. They may even get to try out our Giant’s Ladder or Pamper Pole. Pikes Tikes exposes kids

Progressive Rock Climbing Classes
Participants will learn the skills needed to become a successful climber and belayer. Focus will be on knot tying, equipment use and set-up, climbing communication/commands and techniques used for proper belaying.
Your youngster will catch the rock climbing fever in this fun filled and challenging class. We will lay the foundation for a long and fruitful climbing career. Kids will learn to climb, build confidence and self-esteem.
Our Rock Solid Class is fro those climbers who have successfully completed our belayer skills development and belay test. Climbers will earn advanced foot placements, body movements, route climbing, as well as an intro to lead climbing, quickdraws, lead belaying, and rope management. Climbers in this program have an opportunity to participate on our Youth Demo Team.

Rockin Rockies is a certification class for children ages 12-14 that teaches climbing in a fun and safe setting, and is a great next class from Andes Ascenders. This class will educate climbers on intermediate climbing techniques, advanced gear setup advanced communication skills, and safety. Participants will be certified in how to use the auto belay. system and to manually belay with an instructor by the end of the session. Climbers will also set personal goals to achieve by the end of the session. We will also use a variety of other obstacles throughout the session. Rockin Rockies exposes kids to the art of climbing while encouraging continued involvement and enjoyment of the sport.

This is an exciting combination of slacking and high ropes adventures. What is slacking? Slacking s an adventure sport that combines balance, agility and strength while working with a tight rope. This is a wonderful class for kids that are curious about the wold of climbing. Children will learn to climb, build confidence and increase self esteem. This class is run in conjunction with Seaspar.
This class combines fun on the wall and a mix of sports. Each week your child will sample a different sport. On the climbing wall your child will learn the basic elements of climbing, commands, technique and confidence.

This class combines the fun of our Sportwall with the challange of our climbing wall! This is a fast paced class that will make your child move and perspire!
Wall Crawlers is an introductory climbing class for children in grades 1 & 2 that teaches the basics of climbing in a fun and safe setting. We will be playing various wall climbing games in this course that will be entertaining and fun at the same time. This class is geared toward the experienced climber who has conquered our seven routes.
Come join us for a snowy winter afternoon. Make warm cookies and hot chocolate while enjoying sledding out on our hill. We will also venture out to local sledding hills. Afterwards take off your snow gear and enjoy swimming and rock climbing.

Skateboarding Youth (6-12 yrs)
This class is for the absolute beginner. Gain the confidence you'll need to start out in this far out sport. Learn to gain balance on your board and make turns. Ultimately, you will be able to go down on our ramps and use our fun box. Safety tips will be covered extensively. Helmets and knee pads are required in order to skate.
Intermediate/Advance Skateboard
This is class is for the mature skater who knows the ups and downs of skating. Improve your stunts and tricks. Master the flip turn. Dominate the fun box and be able to call it your very own. Safety is still vitally important in this class and we'll continue to cover this crucial aspect of this exhilarating sport. Helmets and knee pads are required to skate.
Designed for the beginner through intermediate skater. Our skate instructors will teach both flat land, rail, and ramp techniques in these exciting classes.
Soccer Youth (6-12 yrs)
Contenders soccer is a recreational program designed to give players a great soccer experience by focusing on skills development and recreational inner squad games. Players do not have to be on a team to participate in this program.

This class consists of sports-specific drills, plyometrics and conditioning concepts from a variety of sports. The goal of this class is to provide a comprehensive conditioning program for the recreational athlete as well as provide supplemental training to the collegiate, high school and middle school athlete. This class is not recommended for any person with known health concerns or recent injuries as established by the AHA and ACSM guidelines.

This class is for the swimmer who has advanced from Fish or who can swim four lengths of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and 25 yards (one length) of butterfly.
To enter this level, children should be able to float on front and back for 30 seconds without a float belt, paddle for 25 yards without a float belt on the front, back and side, jump in without assistance, and be comfortable in deep water.
To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float for one minute, front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards without float belt, front and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards, side and back alternating paddle for 25 yards, kneeling dive.

The kids will learn all the basics of rock climbing for the first part of class, and than spend the 2nd half of class in the pool learning the basics of swimming, all while having FUN!
Can't make any of our swim times? Have special needs that need to be addressed? Create your own class! This class is a hybrid of private lessons and group lessons if there are four people who want to do a class at a different day and time then when we normally offer classes, fill out the Create Your Own Class Request Form and turn it in at the front desk.
Groups must have between 4 and 6 people. We can do swimming lessons, water fitness groups and almost any special training needs (triathlon, Boy Scouts, etc.). All classes will be 1 hour long and are sold in groups of 1 or 5 lessons.

Jellyfish is the class for swimmers who have little or no experience in the water. In this class we focus on water adjustment and water safety.
The Junior Lifeguard class is a great way to introduce lifesaving skills to young people. The class is taught by a variety of veteran lifeguard staff. Topics covered include water safety, basic water rescues, CPR and Rescue Breathing and first aid. Participants must be able to swim at a Minnow level or above.
Kindergarten Extended Activities
Make the most of your child's time at the Y and sign up for extended activities immediately following the Kindergarten After School Enrichment Program. Enrichment teachers will bring your child to extended activities. Extended activities include swim lessons, gym and healthy living. Please refer to the current program guide for exact offerings.
Lunch Time Wee Folks with Swim
Chrildren bring their lunch or a snack to eat for the first half hour and should come to class with thier suit on. After we eat we will do an art activity, go to the preschool gym and then finish out the day with a swim lesson. Parents will pick up their child at the pool deck when the class is over.

The Lattof Neptunes is a competitive swim team with an emphasis on the YMCA's four core values of Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Caring. The swimmers are taught true team spirit as well as goal setting and personal achievement. The Fall/Winter Swim Team season will run through next March, and all participants must be Lattof YMCA members.
Swimmers must have passed the equivalent of the Ray or Guppy swim level. The swim team is broken into color groups based on age and skill level. The coaching staff will determine the best fit for the swimmer.
Beat those school day blues! On the days CPS and St. Margaret Mary's is not in attendance the High Ridge YMCA Aquatic Center will host a FUN alternative to child care. Each day off will have a different aquatic theme.
Please bring a sack lunch and snack with your child as well as an extra change of clothes and an extra towel. Class includes any other supplies needed, except for goggles!

This class teaches students with special needs how to swim. It will be taught by a special education teacher who is fluent in sign language and assistants based on student's needs. Class size will be limited to only 4 students. Parents are required to remain in the pool area during class time.

For advanced swimmers, fish level and above, looking to be apart of a competitive swim team that will help them refine their strokes, improve endurance, and work on speed. This team focuses on building self-confidence, achieving personal goals, and working and thinking as a team. A competitive spirit is not a bad thing for a person to develop when they are competitive as a team.
Synchronized Swimming challenges the creativity of swimmer by combining the movements of dance with swimming skills. Students work to improve stroke form and endurance while gaining confidence and poise. Swimmers may participate in performances and competitions and must be able to swim at a Fish level or higher.

Our youth swim lessons include polliwog through guppy levels. The YMCA Youth Swim Lesson program is comprised of five components: Personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, water games and sports, and rescue. The Y advocates a student-centered learning approach with developmentally-appropriate activities.
The program utilizes series—or sustained—swimming to develop skills, strength and endurance; peer grouping in which children are grouped by age as well as ability; instructional flotation devices to aid skill development; and games as a tool to enhance learning at all levels.
T-Ball Youth (6-12 yrs)
Improve your baseball skills at the YMCA. All equipment is provided. Participants will work on catching, throwing, hitting and baseball running. Everyone is encouraged to play regardless of your skill level. This is a great class to follow your T-ball season because it will help improve your skills for the spring season!
This program is the next step from a coaches pitch. The players will learn to pitch their own games! All YMCA sports leagues promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and the YMCA's Core Values of CARING, HONESTY, RESECT, and RESPONSIBILITY.
T-ball season is approaching and so are the local leagues. The Y offers rookie T-ball to prep players for the up-coming season. We will work on fundamentals such as throwing, catching, hitting and running bases. It is a FUN first class that everyone is encouraged to play regardless of your skill level.
Tennis Youth (6-12 yrs)
This class is perfect for beginners looking to learn the wonderful sport of tennis. Participants will learn all the basics of tennis while indoors at the YMCA. All equipment will be provided. This class is sure to be a HIT.

Bump, Set, Spike! Interested in playing volleyball or learning how to play volleyball? Learn the basic volleyball skills of hitting, passing and setting. This coed class is great for beginners to learn how to play volleyball and have fun at the same time.
The youth Volleyball League will help female athletes that were not able to play volleyball for a club program this year. The league will be for female’s ages 12 to 18 years of age. The goal of the league will be to help train players during the off season of their grammar school and high school programs. During this time, they will learn fundamentals and advanced volleyball skills and compete amongst other teams in the YMCA Volleyball league. Practices will begin with once a week in March and then move to twice a week in April, competitions on Saturdays and Sunday’s. Game and practice Shirts provided. Calling all Girls! Improve your volleyball skills in this new volleyball class. This class will focus on offensive and defensive concepts.
Come BU MP, SE T, & SPIKE with the Foglia YMCA. This girl’s only volleyball class will stress development of skills, teamwork, and positive competition in a fun environment. The first two weeks will consist of the basics and fundamentals of volleyball. The next six weeks will continue to stress those fundamentals through a scrimmage atmosphere. Played with two nets and a ball, it is the oldest continuous Olympic sports. The objectives of the class will be learning the skills, rules and playing techniques of Water Polo. Water polo is a great way to stay fit while having fun in the water! Participants must be Minnow level or higher.
Water Polo Club (Intermediate to Advanced)
Prerequisite: must be at least Guppy level. Participants will learn the skills and rules of water polo through drills and exercises led by our YMCA instructors and former collegiate water polo players. Registration is required.
Fitness Boot Camp Youth (6-12 yrs)
A boot camp for kids that is led by one of our Personal Trainers. Kids go through stations that include agility, strength, flexibility, aerobic training and fun. Class is developed so that kids experience good exercise while having fun, helping them feel good about themselves.

Can't make any of our swim times? Have special needs that need to be addressed? Create your own class! This class is a hybrid of private lessons and group lessons if there are four people who want to do a class at a different day and time then when we normally offer classes, fill out the Create Your Own Class Request Form and turn it in at the front desk.
Groups must have between 4 and 6 people. We can do swimming lessons, water fitness groups and almost any special training needs (triathlon, Boy Scouts, etc.). All classes will be 1 hour long and are sold in groups of 1 or 5 lessons.

Hip Hop classes focus on learning dance moves to popular songs in the hip hop, rap, and R&B genres. Students can expect to learn dances popular both right now and back when hip hop dancing began. Both classes will be able to perform in the annual recital held in June.

Each company class has an average age that most students are but it is also based on ability and the teacher will evaluate and place the student in the level that best fits their maturity level, abilities, and background.As dancers progress through the system they will be able to apply for the opportunity to student teach a class which will earn them a discount on their classes. Let's get messy and build our wonderland of flowers, herbs and vegetables. Learn the basics of horticulture, kids will be able to water, germinate seeds, plant in pots, all here at your local YMCA.

From dinosaur finds to crazy concoctions, your child will expand his/her mind in a very scientific way.
Join our certified science staff in exploring the wacky world of science! Rockets, Oobleck, Slime, Crystals, Ice Cream ... we are making it all; and best of all, we clean up the mess!* (Children may have the option to bring in Science Fair projects to be worked on during class.)*All class materials included in fee. Join Neighborhood artist and long time YMCA member, Sally Speigel for this 7 week class introducing your child to the endless possibilities of collage. Action! A new drama program geared just for kids. Classes will include stories, games, and activities designed to introduce the basics of drama. We will work together to present a play or skit by the end of the session.

This is an effective weight management program for kids. Fit kids is a program that introduces the family to a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition, exercise and positive behavioral change. This is accomplished through a combination of group sessions and one on one meetings with the nutritionist, social worker and exercise specialist. Both parent and child attend session together. This is for ages 8 to 12. Fit Kids is a medically oriented program that is taught by a nutritionist, licensed social worker and exercise specialist. It will run 12 weeks.

Get your kids moving in our Home School Physical Education Program. This program is aimed at giving participants as close to a “Gym Class” as possible while still remaining flexible to meet the needs of the group. We will focus on one sport per month. Sports include but are not limited to volleyball, basketball, soccer, football, floor hockey and climbing. We also offer a light aquatics class on Fridays. Class can be taken 1, 2 or 3 days a week with a discount for all three days.
This kid's marathon training is designed for kids ages 7-13 to complete 26.2 miles running or walking at thier own pace over the course of the class. Children will train and track their mileage each week and at the end will have completed a Marathon. Training will take place indoors or ourdoors depending on the weather. Children should be prepared each week to dress for the weather.
This innovative class is an introductory class for kids on exercise and healthy snacks. The instructor is fun and explodes with energy. This class will introduce all type of fitness to kids while making it fun. The instructor will end the class talking about healthy snacks. Each week a child will bring a healthy snack to share with the class.
