(Ages 3-5 years) Teaches water adjustment and basic swimming skills for children. In most cases, classes are held without parents, but some Ys do offer classes in which parents participate with children. Participants are assigned to specific levels, according to their developmental abilities and aquatic skills, which may or may not correspond to their chronological age. The four preschool levels are: Pike (Beginner 1), Eel (Beginner II), Ray (Advanced Beginner 1) and Starfish (Advanced Beginner II). So lets just pool it!
Skills taught include paddle on front, side and back, including front, back and side alternating paddle as well as front and back symmetrical paddle, front and back floats; treading water; jumping and diving; bobs, sun and boating safety; PFD (Personal Flotation Devices) usage and reaching and throwing assists and danger recognition Instructors are certified in the YMCA Swim Lesson Program.
