We'll explore this beautiful park, a gift to the people of Illinois from Robert R. McCormick. The historic home, first-class museum and gardens offer something for everyone. We'll enjoy lunch on your own in the park. Transportation is included.
Daddy/Daughter Mother's Day Gift Making
This is a great Jewelry Boutique and Ice Cream Social! Daddy/Daughter pairings can share a unique night out together and prepare for May 8 Mother's Day festivities.
This jewelry class is designed for them to make gifts together to surprise family members.
Glitzy girls will provide glass crystals; clay, designer and silver accent beads, charms and dangles. Each couple will make a necklace, bracelet and 2 zipper dangles---enough for gift-giving and the designer to wear. They complete the surprise with packaging for no-peeking (wrapping supplies provided). Top off the evening with an ice cream sundae buffet for kids and dads! Minimum 7 couples. Perfect for ages 3-11. Dave DiNaso and the Traveling World of Snakes
An up-close, live and extremely interactive experience with reptiles & amphibians from around the world. Come in and meet a 14 ft. python, a 5 ft. iguana, a 50 lb. African tortoise! Over a dozen animals that you would never get to see this close up anywhere else. Entertaining & educational, Dave has done over 7,000 shows over 14 years without any incidents. No poisonous reptiles!! Registration deadline March 15. This is a family event so please have at least one adult with children. Children 2 & under are free. All other children & adults must register & pay fee.

Do you and the kids love to sing to the car radio? Then this is the place for you! We'll have oldies as well as current hits for you to perform in front of an audience. There'll be contest, prizes, and pizza! So grab the family, warm up the vocal cords and head for the Y! Then stay and swim or play in the FAC.
Mom and Dad, do you really know how to put those colorful little blocks together to actually make things? It's time to learn from the experts -- your kids! We'll spread out, dump the Legos on tables and give you some free-play warm up time. Then we'll present the challenges to complete. Competition could get rough! Certificates will be given to the top three family teams. Kids two and under are free.

Who doesn't love to spend quality time with their family under the stars sleeping in a tent? Join us for our family camping overnight. We will play games, make dinner on a camping stove, tell stories sitting in a circle, and sleep in our tents. Families bring their own tents, and snacks to share with the group. Each family must have at least one adult over 18 spending the night.
Join us for this messy art class. We will use household items like pudding, shaving cream and finger paints to create works of art. Bring your imagination and get ready to make a mess! This is a parent and child class, parents are encouraged to join in.
If you are a busy parent and need a morning out to do some extra shopping or just relax, this is the answer for you. We will make new friends, create an art project and play in the preschool gym. Each child should bring a lunch and drink with his/her name on it.
Mothers Day Fresh Flower Project
The whole family can come to the High Ridge YMCA on Friday May 7, 2010 to learn how to make fresh flower bouquets just in time for Mother's Day. Learn a lifelong skill and walk away with a perfect gift for the weekend. Project will begin at 6:30pm and will end at 8:30pm.
Come dressed in your pajamas. We will play games, have a light snack, and watch a movie. Bring a blanket or sleeping bag to lay on during the movie. This is a great opportunity for kids to get out of the house and the parents to get some peace and quiet. The movie is rated G or PG.
Parent & Child Rocket Launch Party
Have you ever wanted to build and launch your own rocket? In this parent and child class you will work together to construct your own Apogee Apprentice rocket and then launch it outside! The large brightly colored parachute that comes with the model makes it easy to see in the sky. Watch the faces of the kids as they chase the rocket, and you'll see why rocketry is so much fun.
Parent and tot art classes, drawing. Have fun with your child doing creative art drawings. This is fun for Mom, Dad and me (the child of course).
Giggles are guaranteed! Rauner Family YMCA is offering families hands on baking activities each week. The kids do the baking, the parent assists, and together we make a mess preparing healthy treats you'll love and prepare at home too!
Parent/Child Pirate Cake Class
(Age 4-8) Calling all pirates! Follow a treasure map throught eh YMCA to find the hidden loot then create a treasure chest cake filled with candy embellishments, chocolate gold coins along with your own beach and water feature. This is sure to be a treasure hunt filled with fantastic memories!
Join us the first Friday of the month after family swim and hear a story and have a little snack. Come dressed in your pj's. This is free for members!
This parent and child class allows you to not only spend time with your child but to connect with other parents and their children. The setting will be less structured allowing free play to grow each week.
(Age 3-8) Please join us for a fantastic class in which you and your little Princess will create a masterpiece cake! A 2010 Nickelodeon Award Nominee for Best chicago Party Entertainer! Not only will you and your daughter be decorating a jewelry box made from Pound Cake and edible jewels, but will adorn it with a crown fit for a Princess. This class will bring out your imagination and creativity.
The Northern Illinois Raptor Center will be here to talk and demonstrate the physical and behavioral traits that make raptors different from other birds. They off a unique opportunity for us to see these raptors up close and learn about the importance of their conservation.
Special Community Family Nights
FREE & OPEN to everyone in the community. These nights offer time for quality experiences for parents and their children to play and create together. Each month's activities center around a theme as described in the monthly flyer.
We offer crafts, sports and games with a fun twist. Sometimes we even ask you to dress for a certain theme. So get your family together and discover new adventures at YMCA's Family Nights! This event is free, but pre-registration is required so we can ensure adequate staffing and supplies
Storybook Creations Parent/Child
Dive into a good book. We will explore a new book each week and instill a passion for reading through different activities like creating artistic masterpieces. This class is designed for parents to come enjoy the class with their child.
Jim will amaze you with up close and interactive magic tricks---right before your eyes. This show is typically done in an enclosed room so you won't miss a thing. You will see traditional as well as cutting edge tricks! This really is a family friendly show! Children 2 and under are free. Adults must participate with children, so the fee is per person, including adults. Please register by Wed. Nov. 10.
Performance is Friday Nov. 12 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
A Halloween event for the whole family. Come out and decorate your trunks for the "Trick or Treaters". Located in the YMCA parking lot. This event is geared toward the preschooler and toddler. One family member will sit by their Halloween decorated trunk while another family member or friend takes your trick or treaters from trunk to trunk to get their treats. This event is free to members. Please bring wrapped candy to pass out. Prizes will be given out for the best decorated trunk! Not too scary please.
Come join this parent-child exploration of all our favorite animals we see at the Zoo. Parents and children will participate in music and movement and will make hand puppets each week.
