Adventure Guides Events

YMCA Adventure Guides is a parent/child program for children who are in kindergarten-4th grade.  This program fosters a healthy relationship between a parent and child.  Click here for more information about Adventure Guides.  Below are some events for families registered in Adventure Guides.

  • After-School Registration Fee 2011/12

    This registration holds your spot in the 2011/12 for Audubon, Lake View, Hamilton, Burley (Before School), Waters, and Peirce.  The fee is $25/Child.

  • American Red Cross Babysitting

    Beginning in 2011, the Foglia YMCA will offer the American Red Cross Babysitting course to youth ages 11 and older. This course will provide your child with the information and skills necessary to give safe care for infants and children when babysitting. important objectives of the program will be identifying safety related problems and resolution, handling misbehavior, recognizing an emergency and basic care of children.

  • Chess Wizards

    The Mission of Chess Wizards is to improve our students abilities to focus and think ahead in various aspects of life. While introducing students to the Magical World of Chess, Chess Wizards teaches children many important life concepts such as the ability to win graciously and accept defeat with dignity and sportsmanship.

  • Ela Teen Center

    (Grades 6-8) Looking for something to do after school? Try the Ela Township Youth Center at the Foglia YMCA. The Youth Center is available to all District 95 Middle School children and is equipped with tables for homework, a big screen TV, Nintendo Wii video games, foosball, ping pong, air hockey, gymnasium, pool and rock wall. Also stop by every Friday for pizza and a movie! There will be a snack provided along with various activities for your child to participate in each day.

    This class focuses on oral reading fluency, letter sounds, beginning writing skills, journal assignments and fine motor skills. It’ll put your child on the right path to early literacy.

    Looking for a safe action packed place for your child in the afternoon?  Bring them to the YMCA!  Their afternoons will be filled with field games, crafts, science experiments, and even homework time if you are interested!  Rock Climbing will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays; swimming will be on Mondays and Wednesdays.  our goal is to develop future leaders in our community.  Don't forget to pack a snack each day.

    Looking for a safe action packed place for your child in the afternoon?  Bring them to the YMCA!  Tier afternoons will be filled with games, crafts, science experiments, and even homework time if you want it!  Rock climbing will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays; swimming will be on Mondays.  Our goal is to develop future leaders in our community.  Don't forget to pack a snack each day. 
    Bus service can be provided if there are at least 5 children attending the program per day from that location.

    This program is an initiative of the Women's Sports Foundation, founded by Billie Jean King, and reinforces positive behaviours such as body image and self-esteem while incorporating physical activity.  Please join us for an Open House from 3:30-5:30pm on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

    Earn your home school gym credit at the YMCA. Experience our indoor soccer field, gymnasium, adventure center, and pool. Stay active during the cold winter months! Don’t forget gym shoes, clothes to be active in and a water bottle! Meet on the indoor soccer field.

  • Junior Lifeguard

    The Junior Lifeguard class is a great way to introduce lifesaving skills to young people.  The class is taught by a variety of veteran lifeguard staff.  Topics covered include water safety, basic water rescues, CPR and Rescue Breathing and first aid. Participants must be able to swim at a Minnow level or above.

  • Kids Night Out

    Kids ... come spend a Friday night at the YMCA with your friends! We'll order pizza, go swimming, rock climb, play in the maze, on the field and in the gym and just enjoy being kids (activities and food vary by center, contact your center for details)

    Registration is required and will end 24 hours before the event so we can arrange for enough pizza and staff! Fills Fast!

  • Kindergarten After School Enrichment

    The Kindergarten After School Enrichment Program will extend your child's love of learning. The curriculum and activities will help your child continue to grow and develop their academic skills, cognitive skills and physical well being. Each day is a new adventure! Please refer to the current Program Guide for daily offerings.

    Make the most of your child's time at the Y and sign up for extended activities immediately following the Kindergarten After School Enrichment Program. Enrichment teachers will bring your child to extended activities. Extended activities include swim lessons, gym and healthy living. Please refer to the current program guide for exact offerings.

  • Kindergarten Klub

     Looking for your Kindergartner to do something adventurous in the afternoon?  Come spend the afternoon at the YMCA!  We will have lunch and an afternoon of activities.  There will be field games, gym games, crafts, science experiments, food art, and more!  Rock Climbing will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays; swimming on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Help your children ease their transition from a half-day of school to a full day of fun!  Pack a lunch. Drop off at 12:00 and pick up at 3:30 in the Adventure Center.

  • Parent Night Out

    Want to enjoy a night out? Catch the latest movie or go to that restaurant you've always wanted to try?  Without the kids? Here's your opportunity.  Bring the kids over to the Y for a night of pizza, games, crafts and time in the adventure center and go out to enjoy an evening on your own.  Drop off anytime after 6:30pm and pick up by 9:30pm.

    Need some extra time to do holiday shopping this year?  Drop your children off at the YMCA and enjoy a stress free evening to complete all those pesky little chores in time for the holidays.  The kids will enjoy an evening filled with exciting activities, rock climbing, and swimming.  Bring your swim stuff and meet in the Adventure Center for pizza and fun!

  • Red Cross Babysitting

    This course will teach best practices about caring for children and infants, how to be a good leader and role model, how to make good decisions and solve problems, keep the children you baby-sit and yourself safe, handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents, write resumes and interview for jobs, and much more! You must attend all classes in order to be certified.

    What you should know! How would your child answer the phone or door if they were Home Alone. This course teaches skills that children should know if they find themselves home alone.

  • School Age Spanish

    Here's an exciting enrichment program where your school aged child will learn the Spanish language through fun, exciting & engaging activities!  Your child will be fully immersed in a Spansih language room and will learn through real-life situation games, oral language development, building vocabulary and phonics, developing listening skills through read-alouds, and arts & crafts.  This class meets two days a week, on Tuesday and Thrusday to enhance hanguage retention.

    This program is offered when the there is no school for grades K-6.  Some of the activities the children will be doing are: Arts/Crafts, Large group games, and Swimming.  Parents will need to provide a lunch and two healthy snack for their children.
